As Chelsea and Manchester City approach disqualification, Messi edges closer to breaking the standing record of Gerd Muller.
Starting off, Chelsea made a mess of their chances as they lost to a Buffon lead Juventus to march past Chelsea. Today’s sluggish performance by Chelsea rose lots of eyebrows, wondering if the defending champions will qualify or not.
Roberto di Matteo tried to play the “false 9” today, much like Spain in the Euro’s, he had included none of his strikers in today’s squad. By electing Apzilicueta, Ramires, and Mikel as the solid foundation, he promoted the “Magnificent 3” to the front line, with Mata in the middle and Hazard and Oscar on the wings respectively.
At other places, a Shaktar Donetsk player, Luiz Adriano seems like he doesn’t have respect for the sport, well certainly he doesn’t have any respect for himself from the looks of it. He capitalized on a drop ball and went past the keeper to score against Nordsjaelland. What?! We don’t do that, but it seems like Adriano cares about advancing to the knockouts more than sportsmanship.
Messi scored 2 goals as Barcelona put yet another magnificent display to cruise past Spartak Moscow with a 3-0 win. In Turkey however, Manchester United despite of having a spot saved in the next round, fell to Galatasary as Yilmaz scored the only goal. Many say it was inevitable with the young squad Sir Alex played, but the Manager see’s it as valuable playing time for the youngsters.
