After making his mark back in English Football, Rafael Benitez looked confident about his first game in charge with Chelsea.
As a new manager, you would always want to start from the back and pick up a few clean sheets. That he did with a tough first game against Manchester City. The game came to a flat finish with the score level at 0-0.
Playing a more defensive yet quick team worked well for him as Petr Cech was rarely called upon. With City dominating the possession Ramires and John Obi Mikel were restricted with their attacking duties, but when given a chance they made some nice passes to feed in Mata and Fernando Torres.
With a lack of penetration from City, Chelsea were good to secure a point from a hard fought game. City now have given up their top spot in the league to neighbors Manchester United who are still in striking range with only one point separating them from City.
Having won their game, Albion sit in third place 2 points ABOVE Chelsea! Chelsea haven’t showed real consistency this term and hence find themselves in 4th place, but as it stands, The Blue’s need to pull up their socks and get back in form they showed in the beginning of the term if they are going to compete for the Premier League.
